Brooklyn Balance aims to be a supportive companion in your psychedelic journey—from beginning to end. A journey starts the moment you decide to have a psychedelic experience, and having the right preparation and tools is essential for a transformational and positive outcome.

With that in mind, we help you prepare for your journey by setting conscious intentions aligned with what your desired outcomes are. We offer tools you can tap into during your journey, and integration coaching to help you bring the psychedelic experience into your day-to-day life.

About Brooklyn Balance

TEAM

Hey! I’m Joshua!

Founder of Brooklyn Balance

My own path with psychedelics began over 20 years ago when I had my first life-changing psychedelic experience. What I didn’t have when I started was the right tools and information to integrate the experience.

In March of 2021, I witnessed the powerful healing properties of psychedelics when used therapeutically. However, because I didn’t have the support and knowledge on how to vet a facilitator, I also witnessed malpractice and unethical use of these medicines in the field.

Experiencing malpractice firsthand led me to find support through Integration circles. In this space, I was able to process what happened. It connected me to a whole community of people who offered incredible support and that understood the significance of working with psychedelic medicine.

Through intentionality and high emphasis on safety, and education I began to experience for myself the power of community, integration and working with psychedelic medicines responsibly.

I am a certified Psychedelic Integration Coach through TAM Integration’s year-long program, equipping me to offer the best support possible. I actively facilitate integration circles and The Journey Cohort Program with The Brooklyn Psychedelic Society, where I am also listed in their vetted facilitators' directory. Additionally, I assist in ceremonies with other groups.

In June 2023, I completed the MAPS Intro & Advanced MDMA/Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy training in Denver, Colorado, learning from experts such as Michael & Annie Mithoefer, Harvey Schwartz, Marcela Ot’alora, and Bruce Poulter.

In May 2024, I completed Guiding Psilocybin Therapy Sessions & Facing Mortality with Mary Cosimano, LMSW, of the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research.

As of January 2025, I am a permitted psilocybin worker in the state of Oregon.

I am committed to ongoing learning in safety, harm reduction, consent, ethics, community organizing, and crisis preparedness. This includes medical and emergency training—I'm certified in CPR for adults and pediatrics, AED, and First Aid.

Beyond my facilitation work, I am also an educator in the field of psychedelic studies. I teach at New York University (NYU), where I lecture on Psychedelic Integration & Alternative Psychology, helping to shape the next generation of professionals in this emerging field.

Outside of the psychedelic space, I was a Commercial & Music Video Producer for over a decade, running my own film production company. I was an original core member of the unionization movement Stand With Production, which successfully established the first national union for commercial production workers, now known as Production Workers Guild Local 111.

I’m an active participant in the MDMA-assisted healing community, supporting trauma-informed approaches to healing, integration, and expanded states of consciousness. My training includes somatic healing, embodiment practices, and trauma-informed facilitation through deep study with ISTA and other transformational education programs. I have also studied and assisted with Clinical Psychologist Dr. Stacy Ellis in her trauma-informed Liberation workshop, which focuses on healing the outer child.

I love music, dancing (especially 5Rhythms), hiking, jogging, Pilates, yoga, traveling, meditation, lifelong learning, and exploring new restaurants with my partner.

Kind Words From Clients

“I can't find enough positive things to say about my experience with Josh.  For me, he blends the ideal balance of empathy, pressure for introspection, new age and science.  My original path to Josh was to explore a psychedelic experience with psilocybin with integration.  I realized later that I had it backwards…Despite having what would be considered conventional success, I had been dealing with low levels of depression, frustration, a "racing mind" and a lack of self love for much of my life.  I had been on a low dose of Adderall for over a year and while it helped, I always thought of this as a Band-Aid, not a solution.

Working with Josh completely changed everything.  He isn't a shaman or a guru or a psychologist.  He's a guide.  Josh doesn't claim to do it for you.  You have to put in the work, but I don't believe that I could have made the progress I have had without his guidance.

He doesn't even require that psychedelics have to be part of your journey unless you want it to be.  On the day of my experience or ceremony, Josh couldn't have been more thoughtful and patient.  I felt safe.  He gave the ceremony the sense of importance it deserved, didn't rush me in any way and assisted me throughout the entire experience.  We even went for a walk afterwards to discuss some immediate reflections.

After working with Josh during my first experience and integration, I don't think of him as just some person I worked with like the sometimes sterile relationship with a therapist.  He's a person in my life who I trust to help me ask the right questions and is a genuine good soul.

You would be hard pressed in my opinion to find a better guide or coach for your journey and beyond.”
