Hi everyone, and welcome. I’m Joshua Jupiter, founder of Brooklyn Balance LLC. This talk is designed to provide an educational framework for both individuals exploring psilocybin for personal healing and facilitators supporting others in the process.
Psychedelics have gained popularity, but with that comes misinformation and charlatans. The goal of this talk is to cut through the noise and focus on the science, safety, and intentional use of psilocybin for alleviating anxiety.

My Story & Journey with Psilocybin
In 2003, I had my first profound psychedelic experience.
In 2008, I suffered from debilitating panic attacks, leading to an 8-year journey with SSRIs.
In 2016, I slowly tapered off SSRIs and began exploring psychedelics in a therapeutic context.
By 2020, burnout led me to fully transition into this work, founding Brooklyn Balance LLC.
Today, I’m a certified psychedelic integration coach and facilitator, having trained with MAPS, TAM Integration, and other programs.
The Science of Psilocybin & Anxiety
Neuroplasticity: Psilocybin promotes new neural connections, allowing for shifts in thought patterns.
Fear Reduction: Studies show it decreases activity in the amygdala, which regulates fear and anxiety.
Ego Dissolution: It can help break rigid thought loops and encourage new perspectives.
Long-Term Benefits: Research at NYU and Johns Hopkins shows psilocybin-assisted therapy provides sustained relief from anxiety, depression, and existential distress.
🔬 Study Highlight: A 2016 Johns Hopkins study found that 80% of cancer patients treated with psilocybin experienced significant reductions in anxiety and depression, with effects lasting six months or more.
Safety & Considerations
Contraindications & Risks
Pre-existing mental health conditions (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder)
Certain medications (SSRIs, lithium, MAOIs, benzodiazepines)
Cardiovascular issues
Potential for difficult experiences or HPPD
Best Practices for Safe Use
Proper set & setting (mental and physical preparation)
A trusted facilitator or guide
Having a support system and post-experience integration plan
Working with Anxiety Through Psilocybin
Approaches & Techniques:
ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy): Helps reframe anxious thoughts.
Somatic Awareness & Breathwork: Regulating the nervous system through mindfulness.
Inner-Directed Approach: Allowing insights to naturally arise rather than forcing them.
Cognitive Restructuring: Identifying and shifting negative thought loops.
Example: Instead of "I can't do this," try "I can do hard things." Shifting perspective is key to long-term change.
Integration: The Key to Lasting Transformation
Psychedelics don’t work like pharmaceuticals—they’re catalysts, not cures. Real change happens in the integration process.
✔️ Journaling, Meditation, & Breathwork
✔️ Movement (Yoga, Dance, Tai Chi)
✔️ Community & Support Groups
✔️ Creative Expression (Art, Music, Writing)
✔️ Nature Immersion & Mindfulness Practices
Final Thoughts & Q&A
Go slow. Less is more.
Avoid chasing peak experiences. The real work happens between journeys.
Trust the process. Healing unfolds in its own time.
